The 2008 Fall Forum gave us a chance to ask a few of the fellows some questions. We'll post a new video here every week.
Catherine Shen: How has the Fellowship program has evolved for you?
Mike Kellogg: What is the greatest value of the Forum?
Estelle Parsley: How does the McCormick Fellowship measure up?
Sandra Long: What has the McCormick Fellowship meant to you?
McCormick Fellows contributed time and talent to develop one of the latest definitive videos to discuss race and media since the landmark Kerner Commission report on civil disorders in America 40 years ago. "Kerner Plus 40: Change or Challenge" was included in a presentation on July 24 at the 2008 Unity Convention in Chicago. McCormick Fellows, representing some of the industry's top media managers, were interviewed for the video along with many news pioneers. Northwestern's Media Management Center contributed technical support while several news organizations provided additional news footage of the turbulent civil rights era. Following the video at Unity, a panel of top journalists representing all of the Unity partners highlighted some of the critical issues America faces now and how journalists respond to them.
You can also view the movie here in two parts. If you are interested in ordering a DVD of the video, please download this form.
Additionally, Ava Greenwell, director of the McCormick Fellows program, talks about why the timing was right to produce the video. Sidmel K. Estes-Sumpter, executive producer of the movie, discusses her reactions while conducting interviews. Finally, Donna Rogers and Duchesne Drew share their personal reactions.
Here Tracey Robinson-English interviews McCormick Fellows during MMC's Advanced Executive Program about their views on diversity moving forward.
Question: Where are we today when it comes to diversity in the newsroom?
